These technical notes describe the design of a lithium battery powered chainsaw. The saw uses a self-developed reduction gearbox rather than a plain plastic housing, which raises torque, lowers noise and improves running stability and service life. A self-lubricating system pumps oil from the reservoir through the oil pump to the guide plate so the chain is continuously lubricated, which extends chain life and reduces the frequency of re-sharpening. The guide plate is secured by two bolts into an aluminium alloy gearbox housing instead of a single bolt moulded into a plastic shell, following professional petrol chainsaw practice. A safety lock-off button prevents accidental start-up, and drive is taken from the motor output shaft through the gearbox pinion to the chain sprocket.
